ADTL Piloting the production of Expanded Polystyrene
(EPS) as insulation– first time in building sector:
Advanced Development Technologies Ltd. a leading real estate developers in Bangladesh has embarked on a joint venture consortium in collaboration with De Mol Holding (DMH) B.V, a Netherlands based renowned engineering group involved in the manufacturing of complete interior systems and individual interior components for the public transportation sector.
The consortium is set to establish a modern production facility for manufacturing EPS block materials for use as insulation material in the building sector.
The strategy of the partners is to pioneer the use of EPS in the building sector through ADTL’s construction works, thereby showing a live example of the superior features of EPS in terms of its lightweight, strength and thermal insulation. EPS, having strong potential to reduce energy costs for indoor climate control, will have a positive financial implication that needs to be strongly communicated to the market.
EPS is widely used in many everyday applications where its light weight, strength, durability, thermal insulation and shock absorption characteristics provide economic, high performance products. DMH since for years is exploring the commercial possibilities for use of EPS as insulation material in the building sector.
As Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) is a lightweight, rigid cellular of polystyrene with good thermal insulation and shock absorbing properties, high compressive strength, very low weight and resistance to moisture. It is constructed from millions of tiny air cells fused to form a rigid material. Raw material (styrene monomer, SM) comes in the form of beads of polystyrene (about the size of sugar granules). SM is the result of the polymerisation of styrene, a byproduct of crude oil extraction. |
